Palo Santo
FOUR YEARS AGO, A JOURNALIST, A PERFUME SPECIALIST AND AN EXPERT IN BRAND CREATION PARTICIPATED IN A SPECIAL MISSION: TO TRAVEL THROUGH LATIN AMERICA LOOKING FOR THE INSPIRATION FOR NATURA´S NEW LINE OF PRODUCTS.
The colourful Andes showed themselves to the crew through the expression of the people, descending from Indian and European ancestors. Natives turned the Altiplano Andino – with an altitude of 4.000 metres and a lack of exuberant vegetation- into a vibrant place with music, colour wool knits and colourful vegetable crops such as the blues, blacks, purples and yellows of corn and sweet potatoes. The local population cherishes Mother Earth, called Pachamama, through the offering of scented gifts.
One of the scents of the thanking ritual comes from Palo Santo,
a wood that exudes a strong perfume when burnt, almost like incense. The essential oil extracted from the tree trunk was selected to create the essence of Natura Amor America Palo Santo, which represents the culture and habits of the Andean people.
The Kachi bath salts were also inspired by the salt deserts in America Latina.
The journey is not over and will continue in the search of scents, landscapes and habits of different cultural environments, in order to get to know, recognize and integrate our fascinating America.
Paramela
AFTER FIVE JOURNEYS TO THE PATAGONIC REGION OF CHILE AND ARGENTINA AND TO THE ANDES IN ECUADOR, PERU, BOLIVIA, ARGENTINA AND CHILE, THEY BROUGHT BACK THE INSPIRATION THAT LATER TURNED INTO PRODUCTS THAT REVEAL THE ESCENCE OF EACH PLACE.
Patagonia is an almost uninhabited region of unseen and exotic beauty. The magnificent landscape and the blue skies magnetize the eyes of the visitors. In this arid and frozen vastness grows the Paramela, a bush that survives the hardest weather conditions and the strongest, most constant winds. Easily mistaken with a regular weed. The leaves of the Paramela hide fresh and fruity scented oil that spreads in the air during the hot season. It was originally used by natives to prepare tea in order to cure the flu. The legend says that Indians used to lather the Paramela oil on their bodies to attract women and get its aphrodisiac powers.
Inspired by the freshness of the Paramela, Natura created the Paramela Essence, the Misqui body oil and the Menthol Paine lotion, an invitation to the senses to relax and get inspired. “The Patagonia journey was introspective, with almost no contact with other people, and the lotion somehow reminds us of that experience”, says Maria Paula Fonseca, member of the Natura group of sub-brands creation.
